Dear Listers,

When I request any page from WWW4 typing just the page address without
'get' or 'send' commands, WWW4 sends back the page with original layout
with colous, tables etc with checkboxes for links. I check the links I
want then click on "Get requested documents" button at the bottom.

This opens up my mail program with the www4 address in the TO column
without anything else in the body of the message. What is the problem ?
How to rectify this. Or should I use only GET or Send command only ?

Hello,

Going online, I finally registerd to deja.com, and gave my own username and
password there. But I don't know what I have earned.

I mean, I could perform "simple" search in deja.com for news without need to
register, and "power search" in it can't be accomplished with emaily
methods, whether I have registered or not. Sending a message to a particular
group can be done using mail2news gateways too.

Then, what is the advantage of using deja.com when we are offline?

Thanks,

Hi Accmailers,

1. What for you think web services put counters in they pages?
They want to know how many hits has their page.
Them if the page has few hits they change it or discontinue it.
        Its a "marketing" problem.

2. I accord that for mail services' servers the owners could install
counters to know how much it is used.
But the counters do not say to the owners nothing about users.
The owner could not know that the accmailer has not other choice.

3. The most of the people think that everybody has full access to Internet.
Do the servers owners know that there is a lot of people with only
        email access?
Do the servers owners know that there are near 3000 members of
        ACCMAIL?

4. Do know some serrvice owners that they server if the "only one" or
one of the few ones that give that specific email service ?
Do they know how usefull that service is for a lot of peolple?

Now, I think, we the accmailers could "have not the right to
demand anything from servers' owners" but in any case we have
the right to "ASK" them.
More yet, I think we have the ought to ask them.

It is right that the most of the mail servers (not all) are free but we do
not ask to maintain it for a comercial use or end.
To be an accmailer is not a bussines.

If "they get 2500 pieces of mail", they will know how much appreciate if
their services, how usefull it is, and that they have not been working for
nothing.

By instead I think that we make it not only for shut down services but also
to thanks to the owners of some very rought servers like the 3 www4mail,
the 3 gophermail yet in service, the old agoras, some ftpmail and so on.
This may be a preventive procedure: Let the owners know how usefull and
valuable is their service before they decide to shoot down it
I propose accmailers to do this for one server each month, what do you say?

We also could elect the "server of the month" and let its owners to know it !

We must try to be one step before the problem !

Sorry by the long message,.

Regards,

garcibal.

Subject: Re: joining files splitted by www4mail servers

if you are using a Pine (or similar email client )
what you can *exactly* do is to
save those files in the order that you want in a single folder.

the folder would then contain the separate parts in the correct
order.

i am not sure if this would work in other email clients. I use
Pine 3.96, and it's email folder is actually a single file containing
all the emails that i saved in that particular folder.

Domain name resolution of IP address. A quick check of whois yields:
gboyd>whois 202.54.124.23
No match for "202.54.124.23".

Up one higher level is:
gboyd>whois 202.54.124.
[No name] (NS53387-HST) NS1.PURETECH.CO.IN
202.54.124.11

202.54.124.19
[No name] (DNS11175-HST) DNS3.MATRIX.CO.IN
202.54.124.20
[No name] (COMPA15-HST) COMPAQ.ANNETSITE.COM
202.54.124.25

So the problem is to figure out exactly which of these is hosting that
IP address.
OK, let's check APNIC (Asia-Pacific Domain Name Registry) because I
notice that all the 202.54.124. IP addresses are in India.

All the IP addresses in the range 202.54.64.0 - 202.54.127.255 are
maintained by VSL in India.

The main problem appears that the DNS servers that provide the IP
address for the www4mail server that you used are not resolving the IP
address correctly to find the domain name. Hence, the error message.

A whois check of rediff.com is OK. That is, if the web page used a
domain name instead of an IP address, it would be found easily. My own
check of changing the IP address to www.rediff.com will only find the
main web page but not the travel availability web page that uses the IP
address.

http://www.rediff.com/rail-air/index.html
The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name
changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

However,
http://202.54.124.23/rail-air/index.html
gives a nice railways/airlines availability web page.

So IP address resolution from the www4mail server is the problem...

General note to all members. The address you use to subscribe is the
same one you must use to unsubscribe -- this is just how LISTSERV
mailing lists work. If you are going to change your address the best
method is to unsubscribe using the old address and then subscribe using
the new address. If you don't want to lose mail then make sure you
subscribe using the new address first. If you have to get rid of the
old address before using the new address, then just send a note to me
telling me which address to unsubscribe and which new address to
subscribe. I can unsubscribe an old address and re-subscribe a new
address easily enough.

Note to Spring Pan. You have these two addresses currently subscribed.

All my WSxxxx FAQs where originally written to be used via Agora
servers with a "send string" request. Most of them still work with
www4mail servers although many find it easier to retrieve the main web
page and fill out the search form and resubmit.

Hence, none of my WSxxxx FAQs have any form/tags or HTML coding in them.

So what is actually wrong with this string?:
send http://www.infind.com/infind/infind.exe?query=spam&time=7

If you are speaking of www4mail retrieval of the main web page, I fail
to see a problem. The page looks like this (in part):

<form method="GET" action="http://www.infind.com/infind/infind.exe"
target="_top" name="infind">

I notice it doesn't appear to have an ending form tag </form> so maybe
this is the problem. If so, add one just after the time selection and
before the </table> end tag.
