All ftpmail server are NOT shutdown. I don't know which ones you have
been using but that statement is just not true. For a list of server,

Secondly, there are no ftp based search engines. There are web pages
that search ftp sites (ftpsearch and archieplex) and there is at least
one archie service still working for email users.
