Just to add one more computer to the line, mine doesn't power off
either. I got some advice from Kubuntu Forum members which didn't work.
Anyway here they are:

- ading rmmod ndiswrapper to the top of /etc/init.d/halt
- activating TermianteServer=true in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
- adding acpi=force and apm=power-off to /boot/grub/menu.lst in the kernel lines

My computer's mainboard is Asus A7S333.
