Please compare with bug 44161. The LMS has to be running in user-space as well.
But it only works on (by hardware) Intel vPro enabled systems.

For other systems like the NP900X4C-A03US there is no solution, yet. But with
another MEI client software or custom kernel hacking it could possibly also
work for these systems. I would look for hardware access (like setting
activation bits) in the MEI driver to see why it's working on vPro/AMT enabled
systems.
The kernel entry point for the LMS is in drivers/misc/mei/main.c, function
mei_ioctl().
