That's a good idea; I hadn't actually though of that when I was trying this. 
Looking at it now, the button doesn't seem to be showing up in
/proc/acpi/wakeup (my output of cat /proc/acpi/wakeup is the same as yours),
and I'm not sure why.

I just tried suspending the system with the power button and closing and then
opening the lid; it didn't seem to unsuspend properly.
