I am trying to get my feet wet with Active4D and am stymied by what has to be a simple
problem. I get the message 'Page not found' when I try to use Active4D. I am working
in Windows 2000 using 4D 6.8.4.
I have created a page in Dreamweaver and put it in the web folder page of the Active4D
shell. The Active4D.ini file contains the file extensions .a4d, .a4p and .htm and the
name of my page created in Dreamweaver, Authenticate.a4d as the default page. I
launch the shell and then my browser with http://localhost:8080. My page contains the
coding examples from the Active4D manual -- the 'Active4D rocks' loop and the 'I was
here <time> on <date>'. My Win4DX file contains the developer's key and the two files
which are the Active4D components and well as the 4D web commands, which is the same
group of files in the demo.
It took me quite a while to discover the a4d file extension and to understand why the
default.htm page was not the one displayed. Aparajita's "Doh" comment in the
default.htm page was a clue that I was not on the right track, and has delayed me in
admitting my beginner's stupidity in this forum. I may have missed the place in the
documentation where it tells you that Active4D pages use the a4d extension rather than
the htm, since I did not realize that I had to read the comments in Active4D.ini as
part of the documentation.
Zach Dennis told me how to make a4d pages in Dreamweaver, but I haven't found out how
to get them to display in design view, which I am told is possible.
I am able to get the demo of Active4D to work with what appears to me to be the same
methodology I have used for my page with the shell. I have the feeling that if I can
get by this first step things will go better.
