I would think that v4 could be restricted to v2003 and later or even 2004 and later. This would allow you to target the most modern version of 4D and allow you to potentially use features only available on the latest versions and devote your valuable programming skills to non-legacy environments. If someone has legacy applications that have not been converted to v2003 or later, they can continue to use v3. If they are new to A4D then they can choose v4 if they have the necessary version of 4D.

That happens all the time during transitions to major new environments.
