Looking for one of my favorites in BBEdit, "find differences" and
have not found it.
There is a jdiff plugin, but it isn't as good as BBEdit's. However,
finding differences is (IMHO) useless unless you are using a source
code management system.
Well, we are! If the comparison functionality - both within a script
and for multiple files - is less efficient than BBEdit, that would be
a shame, as it's one of the features most heavily used by our team,
forming the core of an efficient code management system between four
developers, over fifty interlinked projects and multiple servers.
I'm not against jEdit per se, and all credit if it's your editor of
choice. The only compelling reasons I've heard to switch to jEdit
are syntax highlighting and macros, so far, and the points which you
have pointed out as bonuses are either irrelevant or negative points
in our working environment. I'm sure that with time and effort to
have our developers re-adjust to a new programming environment, it
may pay off, but we have no qualms with BBEdit, around which much of
our core project management system is based. The effort, time and hit
on efficiency which would be caused by needing to adjust a team and
the project management system to fit a new application just isn't
worth the change, for now at least.
