Absolutely fantastic.
I had been studying the manual but in the wrong place - in the
command reference. Didn't check the syntax section - will have to
read it again.
Many thanks for all the assistance I've had from this list over the
last few days. I have made a huge breakthrough in many areas . .
- Apache in front of 4D has increased overall performance by about 10%
- all network errors have now vanished. Even at 200 requests per
second the http availability error never gets above 60% whereas with
4D it's 86% socket errors
- all dropped image/stylesheet problems etc have disappeared and
the site feels much more robust
- replacing 'includes' with library methods as recommended by you
sent the capacity rocketing from 45,000 to 70,000 pages per hour on
stress testing
I've been a bit astonished at how much of an improvement Apache made
to the general fielding of requests.
I'm very hopeful now that I'm going to be able to directly address
the customers concerns regarding reliability and performance. We will
be going live with the Apache solution next week and will see how it
performs for real. 'Proof of pudding' will be when it gets bombarded
at the next sale but it's looking very promising now.
Regards
Peter
