Well I have a number of v11 projects coming up and I will look no
further than using Active4D (v5 when its released). Yes there are a
bunch of new technologies out there but all involve substantial
investment in terms of learning, setup and support. If I have a 4D
database (even a v11 version) why would I choose to go this route?
Maybe I look at things too simplistically but with A4D I have a back
end server for my 4D databases that is easy to implement. Its handles
the keys things for me like session management, searches and gives me
tools like rowsets, batches etc. In addition I can implement so called
web 2 approaches as I see fit (YUI, prootoype)...all play nicely with
A4D.
Probably the only thing I would like to see is an Active4D Lite.
Cheaper license and basically a cut down tool that provides only core
functionality like login handling, session management, and a query
tool....why would I want this? Well for things like iPhone web apps
where I just need to call the database and return data in either XML
or JSON format.
Regards, Michael.

So am I! If 4D had been a SQL database to begin with, I would be
using Rails right now. In fact, I wonder how long Active4D will
last once v11 usage becomes widespread, since v11 supports ODBC and
thus Rails/PHP.
Who here would leave Active4D if they could? I know some already
have.
