Unicorns aside.... If you are going to run separate internet and intranet DNS servers, it really does not matter if the name spaces are the same. In other words, If you run a SOA for the same name space, one internal and one external, then You are fine having them the same. Keep in mind that you will have to update the external one manually and it will be more secure than the internal....
If you are going to run a single SOA for both internal and external (NOT RECOMMENDED), then it would be best to have separate namespaces for internal and external. You do not want internet surfers to resolve you internal DDNS workstations?!? In addition, you may need to offer different IPs depending if you are using NAT. Internal may resolve to 10.x.x.x while internet would resolve 214.x.x.x to the same web server. Hope this helps! -----Original Message----- From: Andy David [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2002 10:14 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] domain name Shhh, you'll wake up my unicorn. -----Original Message----- From: Tom Meunier [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2002 11:08 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] domain name You can read on the internet that the Earth is flat, and 4,000 years old. > -----Original Message----- > From: Lev Zdenek [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2002 10:04 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] domain name > > > Im going to design new AD and I red on the Internet that the > namespace of AD should be diferent from Internet FQDN Zdenek > > -----Original Message----- > From: Ben Winzenz [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2002 4:57 PM > To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' > Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] domain name > > > > There is no reason that your AD name cannot be a Fully > Qualified Internet domain name.
