That's a fairly accurate description, although there are some other parts to
it.

EDI is alive and well, and actually still a growth market, in large part
because of the dot crash companies like Ariba and CommerceOne who sold a
sold a bill of goods that couldn't be delivered. There are traditional
strongholds for EDI, such as manufacturing, automotive and petrochemical,
but healthcare is still seriously considering it as it provides a lot of
cross platform opportunities. In addition, it is as secure as you want to
make it. We regularly traffic EDI for companies that require end to end
encryption and authentication via EDI.

I completely concur, however, that no solution is z:\setup.exe <next> <next>
<next> <finish> when it comes to HIPAA compliance and the larger picture of
EAI or B2B data management. This is one where rolling your own solution
might be a bit more than you want to bite off.
