I wish there were more "black box" appliances for the windows environment.  DC's for instance.  It has a great appeal for distributed branch office type scenarios.

Hey Rick, you thinking we might see a lot of small "appliances" similar to the cobalt cube built on this or what? I'm curious as to what sort of take up people see for this kind of product.

You are correct.  But, there are two issues with this line of thought from the standpoint of what the poster was looking to get - which, sadly, he won't.
 
1.  Web Server Edition (at least as I write now - they changed the name 5 times - they might change this too, but I doubt it) will not be generally available as a separate SKU item.  IOW, you will have to purchase it with a system.  The wisdom of this, IMHO, is questionable - though fact.
 
2.  It is cheaper - because it doesn't do much else other than web services.  But - it still is IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003.  It's not going to allow you to drop it on any OS that you want.
