FWIW, GPUpdate replaced secedit on Windows XP when XP was released as
well.

Subject: [ActiveDir] FYI - forcing a policy refresh in Windows 2003

Just a little FYI note for those who may be starting to work with
Windows
2003 domains. If you remember under Windows 2000, when you made a group
policy change you could enforce it immediately using the /refreshpolicy
switch on the secedit command. Much to my dismay I found out this
morning
that doesn't work under Windows 2003 - they've replaced that switch with
the
GPUpdate.exe command line utility.

For more information on how to use the GPUpdate, check out Microsoft's
KB
article here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=298444
