Does this question relate to your previous thread(s)?  If so, can you keep
the questions within the thread?  

Are you implying that the KCC or ISTG or both have been disabled?  If the
KCC has been disabled, that would explain your earlier error.

In general, it is acceptable to disable the ISTG and create manual
connection objects between sites if you've a good reason to do so, it is not
recommended to use manual connection within a site as it is (in nearly all
cases) unnecessary.  Numerous public documents exist that describe
Microsoft's scenario-specific recommendations on this topic.  Since it is a
scenario-specific topic, I'd recommend that you also take a look at those.

Is there any KB or whitepaper from MS that says manually creating connection
objects in AD Sites and Services is not a good idea?

Also, is it better to just let the KCC and ISTG create the connections for
you? Is it really bad to create connection objects yourself, esp. if say,
you had only about 50 DC's and 15 sites?
