I have to ask.  What Dean shows will change the way that new names will get created.  But I'm curious if the original postor knows that by default you're looking at the users cn vs. the displayname?

Otherwise, I'm confused about the difference between a property sheet and ADUC references.  Can the original postor expand on that?

Dean, if you need a reference to the English language and where it's spoken, I believe you can find some of it's uses here: http://www.engrish.com/  That may not help define US English, but it may be a start. If not, then this might be better - From: http://www.kvenno.is/kennarar/shil/Fourth/StoryofE/Complete.pdf

"It is reasonable to ask if changes in English can be predicted. There will doubtless be modifications in
pronunciation, especially in that of long vowels and diphthongs. In weakly stressed syllables there is
already a discernible tendency, operating effectively through radio and television, to restore the full
qualities of vowels in these syllables. This tendency may bring British English more into line with
American English and may bring them both a little nearer to Spanish and Italian. Further, it may help
to narrow the gap between pronunciation and spelling."

1. Run ADSIEDIT.MSC (or equiv.) from the Support Tools (located on the Windows CD)
2. Expand the Configuration container
3. Expand cn=DisplaySpecifiers then cn=409 (assuming this is for US English ... whatever that is ;o)
4. Locate cn=user-Display and bring up its properties.
5. Locate and edit the createDialog property
6. Set the value to the following literal (or experiment and locate the properties of your choosing) -

 %<sn>, %<givenName>

7. Ensure the change above has replicated to or was originated against the DC(s) in focus before re-running Active
Directory Users and Computers

Subject: [ActiveDir] Display in ADUC

We have 2003 AD. I changed the display name of a user in their property sheet  but it still shows the old display name when you look at it in Active Directory Users and Computers. You can look at the properties and it shows the new display name.. What else do I need to do?
