After you've evaluated them all, could you post a
brief note listing the ones you tested, indicating which one you chose, and why
it was the one you went with?
I'm considering PerlBuilder's IDE (which I used briefly a few years back) but
if there's something free that gives pretty much the same functionality and
installs easily and reliably, I'll likely go with that instead. At least

During the thread I never saw somebody mention Crimson Editor. It’s free
and very active when it comes to updates. If you want an editor for a multi
platform then you might want to consider scintilla/Scite at www.scintilla.org.
