You cannot have a DB connection to a FTP access. 

FTP, as the name file Transfer Protocol Suggests, simply transfers files. It
does not support File opening.

You mah have to use a Maped drive or proper netwrok path
("\\ServerName\ShareName\")

hi alex,

just looked up mapping a drive in the w2k help - it was a bit vague!

gonna have a look around on the web for instructions on how to do this. 
had been using 'add network place' to bring the database folder in as a 
ftp folder but it wont let me name it up as you suggested.

so will this basically appear as a network drive that the whole pc can 
see??
