1. you can redirect traffic to your PC, given that your agreement with
your provider allows you (or you don't care about that)
-what I have did in the past (provider allowing), is go to
http://www.zoneedit.com create an account
-go to your favorite domain registrant, and have your domain
point to the servers zoneedit tells you to
-then its simply a matter of configuring zoneedit to point to
your box

-next get a handy little tool called DirectUpdate
(http://www.directupdate.net/), and configure it with your zoneedit
account, and domain

-now if your IP is dynamic, directupdate will automagically
update zoneedit with the new IP

2. you could type ipconfig/winipcfg depending on your OS. This would
be the IP assigned to your card, not necessarily the IP which is sent
out in your requests, due any number of things like a firewall/proxy
server, etc... If this is related to the first item, directupdate will
actually do a HTTP request for a page from your machine, and use that as
your IP.

3. Winsock can be accomplished through COM. Just remember that when
the COM/ASP page dies, so does your connection.

Subject: Using my home computer as a server

First let me say, this is a great list. I enjoy following the posts
every day, and especially enjoyed the getrows with perameters. David
Penton, you do great work, and I enjoy reading your programming code
when I can. Long live MicroSoft!

My question is this: I run many sites on the internet, in quite a couple
of states, all of them small. I'm wondering if it is possible to direct
traffic to my home pc when I'm online. Just family, so traffic won't be
a problem.

Alternate question: To find the ip address of my machine, when I sign
on, I go to the start button, then run, and type (?) to view the ip
address my machine is using to connect to the internet. Is it sysIP?

Alternate Alternate Question: can I initiate an instance of winsock
between two computers over the internet from an asp page? As much as I
travel, and read, I haven't seen any information on this, is it
possible?

Thanks to all on the list, your great!
Gjorge
