Ms. Hornsby,

May I bother you with a non-ACUPA related query? Would you happen to know how
I could reach Mr. Gates Garrity Rokous?

Friday morning I tried to locate his number in the OSU directory and searched
for him on the OSU web site, but there is no listing for him, nor the
department.

Is he still with the university? Any input you can offer would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you. JoAnn Bova

Eunice,

Here are a couple of tools for you. First, is the link below to the grad
school handbook that talks about the minimum proficiency score we require.

http://www.gradsch.osu.edu/2.2-admission-criteria.html

The second item is the guidelines document (internal document to our Graduate
Admissions Office) that talks specifically about how to administer the
expectations from the Grad School.

Hope this helps.

Jack

Can you answer this or tell me who might be able to?

Subject: [acupa-l] Non-discrimination Policy/Language Skills for Vocational
Education Programs

Within our community college system, we offer vocational and technical programs
& training. After a recent OCR on-site compliance review, it was recommended
that we add the following language to our non-discrimination policy:

"a lack of English language skills will not be a barrier to admission and
participation in the career and technical (vocational) education programs of
the college."

No further guidance was provided in terms of who determines thresholds, or what
this might mean in terms of competencies -- and we're thinking about the
distinctions between developmental programs vs. health care and nursing.

Does your institution have a policy that addresses language skills for students
entering into any programs?

Thank you in advance for your reply.
