The University of Utah does extend its employee tuition reduction benefit to domestic partners ( both same sex and opposite sex--no distinction is made), a policy we were following long before the state government adopted its constitutional prohibition against same-sex marriage. The policy has remained in place unaffected by recent highly publicized battles about same-sex marriage. (You may have seen publicity, that Utah's same-sex marriage ban is now headed for review by the US Supreme Court).
To qualify, the domestic partners simply have to go through a registration process 'proving' their status as domestic partners. And by the way, for overall fairness, we also treat domestic partners as equivalent of family members for purposes of our policies against nepotism (favoritism toward a relative, in such matters as hiring decisions, grading of students, etc). # Robert L. We received inquiries regarding Staff Scholarship Guidelines for same-sex partners and dependents. Our educational scholarship benefits are extended to employees and their dependents. UNT’s nondiscrimination policy statement says “The University of North Texas does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, political affiliation, disability, marital status, ancestry, genetic information, citizenship, or veteran status in its application and admission process, educational programs and activities, university facilities, or employment policies.” The question being asked is: With this policy stating it is unlawful to discriminate against Sexual Orientation, can same-sex partners be granted the Staff Scholarship benefit, even though the state of Texas does not recognize the union? Many thanks.
