Hi Eunice,

We haven't "piloted" a policy, but twice since I took over this position in
February 2012, we have issued policy revisions for a one-year trial period.
After the year lapsed, we evaluated whether the policy revisions had been
successful (in both cases they had) and then re-issued the policy with no
sunset date. Issuing the policies for a one-year trial period was a way to get
through an impasse when someone, for example, thought that the proposed
revisions would lead to a breakdown of the social order for staff employees.

Subject: [acupa-l] "piloting" policies

Hello all.

I just got a request to meet with a responsible office and they want to talk
about "piloting" a policy. We've never done this before - we've piloted
"programs" to test the effectiveness of an initiative before it is made a
policy, but we've never "piloted" a policy on a small part of campus before
implementing it institution-wide. We just did this with electronic signatures,
for example.

Do any of you "pilot" policies? Can you share your thoughts, experience or
recommendations? And if you do it, can you provide any documentation that you
use for guidance in such circumstances?

Thanks for your advice! -Eunice
