And I’ll add that we have a brand new policy on preferred names:

students

Hi Michele,

I’ve not seen a specific university-wide policy that covers the subject per
se…but I know there are practices and procedures (e.g., gender-neutral
bathrooms, etc.) that have been implemented to address this subject. So, here
are some informative links relative to Indiana University:

1. https://www.indiana.edu/about/initiatives/diversity.html (specifically,
note the links in the “A welcoming home for GLBT students” section in the red
section block.

2.
http://policies.iu.edu/policies/categories/administration-operations/equal-opportunity/Equal-Opportunity-Affirmative-Action.shtml
(note in the “Policy Statement” section that “gender identity” is an
identified class of people).

3. Lastly, this office: http://glbt.indiana.edu/home.php is a treasure trove
of all things GLBT for students AND employees…they really know their stuff
about any and all questions for the GLBT community here at IU.

So, not a specific policy but hopefully some helpful resources for you to
access.

Best,
T. Michael Ford

Subject: [acupa-l] Policy on accessibility for transgender employees and
students

Good afternoon,
Does anyone have a policy that covers the above subject? Elements of the
policy might include accessing bathrooms, locker rooms, and using preferred
names/pronouns. I would appreciate links to existing policies, if you have
one, or knowing if you have one in progress.

Thanks!
Michele
