Hi Jennifer,

The University of New Mexico does not have a separate policy on academic
administrators, but our policy on contract
employees<https://policy.unm.edu/university-policies/3000/3240.html> addresses
one of the factors you mentioned in your email, as follows:

6. Faculty Status of Academic Administrators

Some administrators subject to this policy may also have appointments as
members of the faculty and retain faculty rank and tenure status while serving
as administrators. Termination of these individuals' administrative contracts
does not affect their rights and privileges as faculty members, although salary
and other benefits will usually be affected. The terms and conditions of
employment of these individuals as faculty members is subject to the
University's Faculty Handbook.

Good luck with developing your new policy!

Pamina

Subject: [acupa-l] Senior Academic Administrators Policy

Good afternoon,

We are in the early stages of developing a policy with respect to senior
academic administrators to supplement the basic employment policy that includes
those positions. The new policy will articulate the employment terms and
conditions that are unique to those positions and will include items such as
faculty appointments and return to rank following senior academic
administration appointments, support for research, and administrative leave. I
would really appreciate receiving any examples of similar policies from other
institutions.

Thank you very much!

Jennifer
