Hi Theresa,

Our KU Card Center - Request for Release of
Photo<https://policy.ku.edu/card-center/photo-release-request> policy addresses
the photo as directory information. Our approach is that photos are generally
not considered to be directory information.

Thanks,
Amy

Subject: [acupa-l] Images in directory information

Hi,

Our FERPA policy includes "photographic and electronic images" as directory
information.

A student filed a Freedom of Information Act request for surveillance camera
video that was captured on a specific date and time range. The camera is
located on the first floor and is pointed at a door that enters the stairwell.
Apparently student congress campaign banners located in this area were ripped
down. The student submitting the FOIA request feels he knows who the
responsible person(s) is/are and would like to confirm through the video. Our
Legal Affairs area determined that the surveillance video would be turned over.
It was never our intent that surveillance videos for criminal activities would
be used in this way.

We are now reviewing our Directory Information. Would you mind sharing your
language regarding photos?
