Theresa, Here is the definition of Directory Information in Purdue’s policy. You’ll note only athlete’s photos are considered part of our directory.
Directory Information Information contained in an Education Record of a Student that would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed. The University considers the following listed items to be Directory Information: Student's name; local and home addresses; local and home telephone listings; email address; major field of study; enrollment status (e.g., undergraduate or graduate, full-time or part-time) and credit hour load; classification; dates of attendance; participation in officially recognized activities and sports; weight, height, photograph and position of members of athletic teams; degrees, honors and awards received. The University reserves the right to amend this listing consistent with federal law and regulations and will publish any amendments. A student filed a Freedom of Information Act request for surveillance camera video that was captured on a specific date and time range. The camera is located on the first floor and is pointed at a door that enters the stairwell. Apparently student congress campaign banners located in this area were ripped down. The student submitting the FOIA request feels he knows who the responsible person(s) is/are and would like to confirm through the video. Our Legal Affairs area determined that the surveillance video would be turned over. It was never our intent that surveillance videos for criminal activities would be used in this way. We are now reviewing our Directory Information.
