Hi Jen,

I've taken up your request (as I hope others will) since these responses assist
us in the collective understanding of our profession. See my answers below.

* Job Title My job classification is Director; my working title is
Director of Rules Coordination

* Job Description I'm not sure this e-list will take an attachment - so
I'll send this off-line.

* Number of Years in Position I've been with the UW for 36 years and in
this position for 31 of those years, but I've grown the position from a
Procedures Analyst II, then to an Officer position, then to a Director, with
each step taking on more responsibilities and a larger scope of policies/rules
oversight. I've been a Director for the last 12 years.

* Salary Range In my opinion, the UW's salary ranges are so broad as
to be useless, nevertheless mine is $59,496 - $145,572

* Percentage of Time Spent on Policy 75% of time on UW policies and 25%
of time on UW rules (Washington State requires its public higher education
institutions to promulgate agency rules for specific types of policy.)

* Percentage of Time Spent on Other Duties (please specify) Some office
management functions (we're a small unit of 2 FTE that reports to the Chief of
Staff in the Office of the President).

* Additional Information You See Pertinent I agree that policy scope is
important here. Is drafting or development of policies/rules included? Policy
review and approval processes? Or is the office only responsible for
publication and maintenance of policies/rules? Do you assist the university
community in locating UW policies/rules? I do all of those things but my
responsibilities vary depending on the type of institution-wide policy or rule:
Board of Regent Bylaws, Standing Orders, and Policies - I may assist in
drafting, editing, and reviewing some, while only publishing others;
Presidential orders and/or Administrative Policy Statements - I may assist in
drafting, editing, revising and/or wrangle reviewing parties for these or
merely run the review/approval process; Faculty Code and Scholastic Regulations
- I am generally a technical editor for these; Washington Administrative Code
rules - I may assist in drafting, editing, and revising these, act as a
technical editor, and always run the rule-making process (state filings,
notices, hearings, comment periods, reviews, Board adoption, etc.). My other
function is working with UW leadership to place new UW policies/rules within
the University's policy/rule structure, which depends on understanding
university governance and delegations of authority. My office also updates the
university's leadership list and organization chart annually for this reason.
Finally, I work with the university's state (and occasionally federal)
lobbyists each session to review any bills affecting rule-making functions and
to review passed legislation that may affect UW policies/rules.

My best,

Rebecca
