Hi Meredith,
I am replying to your question in regards to salary increases for awarding of
degrees. I am only pasting part of our policy here because it is embedding in
part of a large Salary policy where the rest of it doesn't have anything to do
with your question :)

(part of our) Classification for Salary Determination policy

Educational Levels
Levels of educational preparation acceptable to and recognized by the College
have been established for each position. In each case, job descriptions carry
the minimum requirements.

Public perception, quality assurance, accrediting agencies, and governing
bodies and boards are influences that make advanced educational preparation an
added value in a college. For those positions where education beyond the high
school is helpful to the College, a higher base salary is paid for each
advanced degree. Pending the availability of funds, full-time faculty, staff,
and administrators who earn advanced degrees or certification in their field of
employment are eligible for a salary increase if the additional degree or
certification enhances or improves the employee staff member's ability to
satisfy the requirements of the position.

Advanced degrees and certifications will be reviewed by the College President,
who will determine if a salary increase is appropriate. If the College
President determines that a salary increase is appropriate, the salary increase
will normally be five (5) percent or a percentage close to five (5) percent
that falls on the nearest step of the salary chart. For new degrees received
between July 1 and June 30, salary adjustments are made to become effective at
the next contract renewal date, normally July 1, provided funds are available
and legislation permits. Official transcripts must be sent to the Personnel
Records Office as soon as possible after the new degree is awarded.

For those positions classified as either Executive, Administrative, Managerial
or Faculty, the educational categories are: Less than Bachelor's Degree,
Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, and Doctoral Degree.
For those positions classified as Professional Non-Faculty, the educational
categories are: Less than Bachelor's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, and Master's or
more Degree.

For those positions considered to be Technical and Paraprofessional and Skilled
Crafts, the two educational levels are: Less than Bachelor's Degree, Bachelor's
or more Degree.

For the Secretarial and Clerical category, there are three educational levels,
which are: Less than One Year Preparation beyond High School, One Year
Preparation beyond High School, and Two Years' Preparation or More beyond High
School.

For the custodial and grounds staff (Service/Maintenance) there is no salary
differential as to educational preparation level.

Degrees from NonRegionally Accredited Institutions
The requirements of various accrediting agencies are extensive. The College
does not have the resources to evaluate and equate the academic appropriateness
of applicants who possess degrees from nonregionally accredited institutions,
especially degrees from colleges not located in the United States. Persons
holding such degrees who wish to apply for employment must provide to the
College unquestionable evidence that the applicant has both adequate and
appropriate academic preparation. Such evidence may include such documents as
formal appraisals of transcripts by established agencies in the business of
appraising and evaluating transcripts.

For pay purposes, post-secondary degrees will only be recognized if granted by
institutions accredited by a regional accreditation association of the United
States (i.e. New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Middle States
Association of Colleges and Schools, North Central Association of Colleges and
Schools, Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools, and Western Association of Schools and
Colleges) or a college or university nationally recognized in another country
and recognized by the University of North Carolina System as meeting all
accreditation criteria or otherwise authenticated.

Hope this helps,
Rachel

Subject: Policies on Bonuses and/or Salary Increases

Good morning!

I am looking for policies regarding the award of bonuses and/or salary
increases for additional skills/knowledge/award of degrees.

Additionally, if anyone can share how they differentiate a certification from a
licensure for the purposes of salary increases and bonuses, that would be
immensely helpful!

Thank you!

Meredith
