Deena, We do not have a policy. However, our Risk Management department has been working to put together some procedures that would outline when they need to be contacted in connection with the purchase or use of a drone. The purpose of contacting Risk Management is to ensure proper FAA exemptions and insurance are obtained. The last draft I saw did not use any kind of committee for monitoring; I expect the responsibility will fall to an existing RM employee.
We have an airport, which means that by federal law drone operators have to notify our airport prior to flying the drone on campus. This helps to add another point of contact to direct individuals to RM. Since I don't have the most current draft of the procedures, I'm not able to share any actual language with you at this time. Also, do you have a committee that approves use of drones? If so, what is the composition of committee? Thank you!
