Karl,

For the most part our AD upgrades went pretty smoothly except for some
problems with a software package which had written some custom AD
objects in our schema. Part of the way through the upgrade it would fail
and after spending hours on the phone with Microsoft we discovered that
there was a known issue with this particular software that had written
objects in our schema in an incorrect format. We had to contact the
software vendor and obtain an update that went through our directory and
fixed the objects so we could then proceed with the upgrade. I apologize
for the vagueness of this description but I did not want this to turn
into a product bash. So my advice to you would be to verify any of your
software packages that have required you to extend the schema in the
past and ensure that they are all up to par prior to performing the
upgrades. It will save you lots of time on the phone.

Thank you for the warning, it was this sort of thing that I was worried
about. I'm surprised the NT4Emulator remains active after elevation!
I'm also alarmed to hear that Win2k and newer machines had problems
after switching to AD! As it happens, we have, no NT4 DCs, only the
ex-PDC NT4Emulator.

Thanks

Karl
