Back to the topic - anything heavy I/O or SQL related I make it a rule of thumb to not put on VMware. Our TAM response was If you do end up going that route and you do have issues and ask for assistance, Microsoft will ask you to duplicate your problem on hardware setup. IMO, its not worth doing production SCCM on it but if your just kicking the tires and doing a test area (separate forest) would think VM is cheap option.
