The other thing I would mention is Linux portability.
Its sort of organic in that it will adapt and grow on
all sorts of different equipment, with the user
interfaces being much the same, no matter which
machine you're on. This means many existing platforms
around the place can interconnect naturally, without
the addition of new computers or equipment. Harmony in
nature was one of the first principals I learned from
the Miq'mac and Malaseet First nations.
