Unlike art, though, most software is written to be useful to someone.
Shouldn't there be a mandate for things like usefulness, originality,
experimentality (it's a word now) and other lofty goals like that.

We wouldn't want to start giving out grants for people to participate in
obfuscation contests, would we :)
