Just to note: I bring the ideas I have up in this forum not to suggest that CLUE should adopt the "Free Software" philosophy that I follow (and am fairly strict on personally), but to ensure that CLUE considers these issues and ensures that something about this gets documented. What doesn't get documented will get discussed (debated, argued, flamed) over-and-over and waste time that the group could spend fulfilling its chosen mandate. I do believe there will be a conclusion, and that this thread will have helped to bring CLUE to that conclusion. I happen to believe it will be that CLUE will focus on the words of it's acronym, even in the order suggested by the acronym: - Canadian - Linux - Not "Open Source Software", not "Free Software", although these will be included but not inclusive. - Users - Not focusing on developers, or governments/politicians. Someone like myself will likely be a "member" of a group like CLUE (assuming that there is an individual membership type for eithor citizens or small businesses). My advocacy and other volunteer time will be spent elsewhere. This shouldn't be considered a loss by CLUE as long as communications ties are kept fully open with groups that have some similarities (IE: CLUE, CanOpenER, FreeIT-gov, digital-copyright.ca, Oekonux, GOSLINGS/etc, etc) --- Russell McOrmond, Internet Consultant: <http://www.flora.ca/> See http://weblog.flora.ca/ for announcements, activities, and opinions Getting Open Source and Linux INto GovernmentS | No2Violence in Politics http://www.flora.org/dmca/forum/942 | http://www.no-dot.ca/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
