  There are various flavors of raid, some to do with data safety (raid 3 to 5
  I think), i.e. a couple of drives are combined to form a raid with built in
  redundancy - if one drive fails the system can rebuild all the info, you
  just take out the broken drive and slot in the new one.
  So-called raid 0 (zero) is the one that is relevant to video editing  - it
  doesn't provide security but instead speeds up disk access, nearly doubling
  the speed for every time you double the amount of disks. This is essential
  for uncompressed and higher definition editing - can also be very good for
  high-end DV editing, motion graphics etc.
  XP proffessional has raid capability built-in, XP home doesn't.
