Julian...sorry for using a broad stroke, but SECAM and PAL are both
25fps, both 525 lines/50 fields, both horizontal frequency of
15.625kHz, both vertical frequency of 50 Hz, both video bandwidth of
5.0MHz, and sound carrier of 5.5MHz. the difference being PAL has a
color subcarrier of 4.433618 MHz. thank you for response though and
being in "PAL land" you should know.

JeffH...

as always on top of things!

---I am DEFINITELY NOT "on top of things".
I had no idea that SECAM was only a broadcasting format until Perry Mitchell
explained it to me,
and I had spent SIX YEARS making SECAM to NTSC transfers for
American-Russian Television and STILL did not realize it.

I am more versed in the creative side than I am in the technical side. I
know what I know but there are enormous gaps in my knowledge. I always laugh
when my wife says "you just love to play around with those computers".

I have since told her numerous times that "if I could edit on a washing
machine I would be a Maytag Fanatic instead." It just so HAPPENS that we
have to use computers instead.

I try to learn enough about the equipment to push it to the limit like a
finely tuned race car, but as you know there are plenty of race car drivers
who might know when their cars "sound right" but not all of them know how to
build the 800 horsepower engines.

I depend on the brilliant "crew chiefs" that we have here in this and the
other handful of forums I read to tell me when I am full of crap, and it's
sometimes quite surprising how often that can be!

Take care!

JeffH
