I was talking to my friend tonight, who is the one who told me about this
extreme copyright. He said that it was a fact, but they only enforce it when
large companies, such as MGM, Warner Brothers, or some TV program
shoot a scene of the San Diego skyline. Let's say you are an executive for
Warner Brothres and you are making a war movie and you want to get some
footage of North Island Naval Air Base in San Diego harbor and in the footage
you show the San Diego skyline with the El Cortez Hotel, the Bridge that goes
across the bay, and the entire skyline that defines San Diego...if that is the
case,
then you have to pay a royalty fee to the city of San Diego. He said, that
kind of
thing they will enforce because Warner Brothers has deep pockets. But, if you
or
I take video footage of the San Diego skyline and put it in one of our video
productions
that we sell on e-bay and we only make a few hundred dollars a month from
it....they will
not come after that, because it is not in their interest. I don't know if this
is true, but this
is what he told me.

Anyhow, that's what he told me last night. And like I said, I e-mailed the
district
attorney of San Diego yesterday to see if this is all true or not. I think
everyone would
agree that you could not use video footage of a public business street with
cars going
back and forth, and people walking back and forth, and in the back ground are
the
golden arches and a big sign that says MacDonalds. MacDonalds would say that
you violated their trademark (goldne arches) and their copyright
(Name-MacDonalds).
That's my impression from what I have heard from others. Correct me if I am
wrong.

By the way, if anyone wants to use my royalty free music on your video
productions
you have my permission to use my self imposed copyrighted songs for video
productions,
music books, performance or recordings. It is my tiny contribution to make the
world
a better place for creativity to flow freely. All I ask is that you give me
credit when it is
possible to give credit.

I am doing something here kind of like Taky is doing. Taky is offering free
video clips. I have
decided to offer free music and sound scapes. The URL is:

THis sounds like an urban legend.

If you are going to block off streets and use public right aways,
buldings that is one thing...but the skyline...I don't think so. What
  do the postcard makers do?

  Secondly it is so unenforceable....

I'm looking forward to seeing where this thread goes.
