We don't use them as our source drives for video. We use them to transfer and keep video data for easy access. We tried using them as source drives but that is where we started developing problems in our editing and it slowed our systems down.
As far as problems with the WD's. We had 3 out 12 go "bad". They just started making weird noises and then they crapped out on us. We couldn't get our data off of them. After we used one for one of our long time clients and it crashed and burned we decided to find another external, Maxtor. No problems yet and we have been using them for about 2 and half years. ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Michael Sent: Thursday, February 09, 2006 5:10 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [AP] External Drives? How heavily do these units get used? In other words, In editing of course it can be quite intensive. In common random backup operation it is probably less intense. I want to go with a unit that can take it and not get bogged down do to heat etc. Also I am interested, what problems did you have with the WD units? Right now I am tending to go with Seagate or Maxtor, unless I get something on this list that directs me elsewhere.
