It might be that it can't keep up to the required data throughput when 
capturing to the system drive, which is likely 5400 RPM versus 7200 on a 
desktop. Were you using a separate drive to capture on your desktop? I 
sometimes use my P4 3Ghz laptop for short captures, but I capture to an 
external drive (in this case USB2). My editing desktop uses external 
firewire drives.
