Amber: several things may occur: -the speed of your laptop disk is not enought -You are not using a good firewire card -You are using or have another background programs running and "eating" resources of your laptop
The best is having a disk partition , only used to capture video. Take in care of it, and when you capture, close all the aplications not used.
