Amber: several things may occur:
-the speed of your laptop disk is not enought
-You are not using a good firewire card
-You are using or have another background programs running and "eating"
resources of your laptop

The best is having a disk partition , only used to capture video. Take in care
of it, and when you capture, close all the aplications not used.

I just a a new laptop and premiere keeps dropping frames when I try to
capture. I never had this problem on my desktop and my laptop is more
