So you want to do a dissolve, or some transition, between 2 clips, did I understand you correctly, or do you want the clips to be on separate tracks? I use ppro 2, which can dissolve between 2 clips like any other nle, but the clips are on the same track and the dissolve, or other transition, is placed on the same track with them, and overlapping the end/start of the clips.
I've used the kind of set up you describe in speed razor, and getting used to the way this is displayed in ppro is not difficult.
