Amit, best is to have system drive like 80gb or so and have data (video drive) as big as you can, of the time I've been editing, putting computers together, I avoid to have my data/video drive to be the same as the system drive so in case my system drive crashes, my video is still intact.
If your time line is 1hr 20 mins, you will have 'degradable' quality when go to dvd, keep in mind, a dvd-r or dvd+r can only fit 4.3gig of data, which means, the bigger your footage his, the more it has to compress to fit it in, so to keep quality up, is to have the audio to be encoded as ac3 format or mpeg layer 2 (which is mostly used in PAL system, not necessarily works with ntsc systems) So, that said, you'll never going to get as good quality as you can with a finished video on mini-dv tapes (taping on a lp mode or breaking it down into 2 tapes), what you can try is this: Play with data bit rates, play with the 2-pass maximum kbps bitrate of about 5000 and average of 4500 and minimum of 3500 see if that would work, if that number is too high, drop it down a bit to 500(-) and see, until you get to one that FITS into a dvd-r or dvd+r disc. Remember, your total file size should be about 4.3gig or less, anything higher than tat, you'll have problem fitting into the disc. I've few more questions: 1. If i have a 120GB(system drive) and a 80GB HDD(data drive) is it true that system drive should not be used for NLE activities? 2. My timeline is around 1 Hr. 20 Mins. Would you recommend any specific encoding setting for this duration. I'm confused between various NTSC high/low quality, 1-pass/2-pass, 4MB/7MB, CBR/VBR etc. Thanks in advance Amit Guerrilla Productions <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Amit, Might I recommend exporting from premiere as uncompressed AVI files and letting Encore do the encoding? It's probable that you're encoding out of Premiere and then RE-encoding with Encore. I do this for all my movies and the results are terrific.
