Cards like Matrox that does real time are great asset if the computer is
slow, for me I have 7 editing computers, 3 of them are Pentium 4, 3ghz
hyperthreading with 1gig of ram and 3 hard drives, the other 2 machines uses
2gig of RAM, what differences I noticed is with 2gig (not 1.5gig) you will
definetely see an increase of performance (also making sure the hard drive
speed is up to par, etc).

With $300, first see what type of hard drives are you using? Are you using a
C: drive only for programs and videos? If yes, get another hard drive. If
you are using 2 hard drives, is the scratch disk hard drive fast enough? If
not, replace that, then also bump your memory if you can to 2gig (using the
best) it will make a difference.

Rendering will always take time, since your budget is limited best is to
minimize that rendering time and work around it. Or, if you have enough $,
go get the Matrox real time video card or get a faster computer :)

Subject: [AP] Faster Rendering

Hello everyone,

I have PPro 1.5 and am using Win XP with 1 GB RAM and 2.8 processor.
As a home user, I would like to find a way to speed up rendering in
Premiere.

Given a limited budget, am I better off with more RAM or a video editing
card? I guess it's a speed vs money thing, but if I could find an
"acceptable" video editing card for under $300 I suspect that would be the
way to go.

Any opinions on RAM vs card would be appreciated, as would suggestions for a
video editing card.

TIA,
RR
