Jeff writes "You're right that HD is nothing more than
a bigger frame size."
Well, that was my GUESS, but I can't seem to find out if there's anything else
to it. if this is the case, then it seems totally reasonable for someone to
say "Premiere 6.5 can edit HD," and i recall that being a no-go.
But, I could be wrong.
"The advantage is that 1920 x 1080 HD uses *square*
pixels, the same as your computer monitor and thus your version of Photoshop..."
Nice bullet to have missed, there!
Now I only have to worry (a little) about the really long pans, because
premiere can only handle still images of 4000 x 4000 and we are planning some
very large pans. But perhaps we shall try using After Effects for the bigger
pans and exporting from AE into a 1920 x 1080 AVI file that will be dropped
into the premiere project.
"...but you should be able to create a
custom project with your own dimensions and your own frame rate."
Yep, I think I tried this actually back with 5.1c and did fine. Took a l-o-n-g
time, though. 8)
"If you are tight with your naming conventions, you can import every frame just
once, as a series of stills, and Premiere will order them in the order of their
names. Then you can bring them into the timeline window in that same order, all
at once."
Yep, I do that for other projects, too. This is a trick I am very familiar
with. 8)
"Just make sure you set your still duration BEFORE importing the animations
into Premiere."
I made that mistake... ONCE. Whoops!
"(For example, if you are doing 12 stills/sec, on a 24 fps project, then set
the default still duration to 2 frames, so that you don't have to manually trim
each image to 2 frames.)"
Oh gotcha -- this is if I'm shooting on 2's. Yeah, we're discussing that with
the animators. Of course, THEY would love to draw only 12 frames per second...
;)
Thanks, Jeff!
I'll have to do a couple seconds of a test and see what I get.
Hm, after I have my big-ass AVI file, can I just import that into, say, Encore
and hope that it's smart enough to make a HD DVD, or am I stumbling blindly
into the dark here?
Cheers,
Edward
