I would love some advice on choosing a new camcorder. I picked up a Sony
DCR-SR62 today that has a 30GB Hard Disk Drive, and I thought it would be an
improvement over my old Sony DCR-TRV17, but I didn't realize that it does not
record in DV format, like the mini-dv recorders. It delivers an MPG file that
doesn't work correctly in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5. When I import the file,
there is no sound. I can convert the file with Procoder Express and then I get
the sound, but that degrades the quality even further.

After browsing various sites on camcorders, it looks like mini-DV is still the
better way to go, especially those that also have HDV.

I would like to stay under $1,000, if possible.

Is there any way to get good video out of the HDD types? If not, and I go with
mini-DV, what's a good choice? Or am I better off just keeping the TRV17?

Thanks very much,

Jean
