Hello,

I do it the same way as you do, exporting dv-avi as uncompressed for
after effects. main reason I do it is for the square aspect ratio and
progressive video, because some plugins I use need deinterlaced
footage. another method i use since cs3 is importing the premiere
project in AE, then deinterlace and make it square pix before I apply
any effect. finally i render the avi again as uncompressed from AE.
but I agree it uses a lot of disk space.

In my opinion the quality doesn't get better when exporting as
uncompressed, but when applying effects to the video, it will look
better instead of using dv avi's only.
Other method is to use quicktime codec's, the quality stays high, but
the files doesn't get that large. (especially usefull when i work in HD)
