There's nothing stupid about looks including crushed blacks if it's done on purpose. You've been watching movies with crushed blacks for decades unless you never watch any horror movies. They have to use the crushed blacks so that you don't see all the mistakes in the special effects. A good example for this is Evil Death. Still a great movie though.
A lot of video clips have crushed blacks too. No I'm not talking R&B only.
