Thus the coffee suggestion, ha-ha. ;)
It was a lot of data, but maaaaaan, I hate doing work someone's
already done and posted online where I can read it.
That's also why I suggested talking to his integrator (if he's using
one). I've known too many people who made their computer purchasing
decisions based on what was:
* on sale
* being pushed by the salesmonkey
* had a cool-looking case
* had a cool-sounding name
* was advertised as "great for gamez, dood, and that's what you really need!"
I've worked with probably ten different integrators in my life, and
only ONE I'd be completely comfortable with saying "Hey, I want to run
CS5* -- can you build me a system that works best for that?" That's
what he does. He does all the research and learns all the products
and builds me a system that works. He offers me options.
He builds systems for other production houses, too, and we all talk
with each other and compare notes. I can even ask him "Hey, can you
build me the same system you built for so-and-so?" and he's on top of
it. He's a nice guy and he's worth what we pay him.
I would be as good a system integrator as he would be a filmmaker.
So, we have a social deal -- he's paid to build computers (which he
loves doing) and I'm paid to make movies (which I love doing).
