Malli, off the top of my head, the thing I'd try is:

1. Do some compression
2. filter out some of the high frequencies (not heavily, though)
3. Normalize.

I might swap #1 and #2 to see how that sounds, too.

While a person can do a lot to an audio file, it's not the same as capturing
the audio right in the first place.  Ah well.
