With regard to what will work with EMC Connectrix etc, you can check with EMC. They have a document that is considered an authority on who is tried, tested and part of the EMC family, and who is not. Even if your combination is not supported you can make a request for qualification, and they might already have results from that combo in which they will support your configuration with some stipulations.
